One adult in your household — the family organizer — invites your family members. When family members join, they get instant access to the group’s subscriptions and content that are eligible for sharing. Each family member uses their own account, so everyone’s experience stays personalized and private.

Set up Family Sharing.
When you set up purchase sharing, everyone in the family gets access to the apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books that family members buy. The content automatically appears on the Purchased page in the App Store, iTunes Store, Apple Books, or Apple TV app. Some items can't be shared.
Whether it’s music, TV and movies, news, games, or keeping your photos and files up to date across all your devices with iCloud, Apple subscriptions have something for everyone. With Family Sharing, your whole family can share access to the same Apple subscriptions. And with Apple One, you can bundle everything together for one low monthly price. You can also share some other subscriptions that you sign up for in apps from the App Store.
See which subscriptions you can share with family.
When you share an iCloud storage plan, family members can't see each others’ photos, files, or documents. And when you share other subscriptions like Apple Music, Apple Fitness+, or Apple TV+, each person sees their own preferences and recommendations — not the whole family’s.
Want to keep purchases private? You can hide individual items or choose not to share your purchases.
Parents can create Apple IDs for kids under 13* in their family. With an Apple ID, a child can use their own account on their own device — and even make their own purchasing decisions. But with integrated parental control features, parents can still set limits.

If you want to see and approve what kids download, set up Ask to Buy. When a child asks to buy apps, movies, or other content, an alert is sent to the family organizer, who can approve or decline it right from their device.

With Apple Cash Family, your child or teen can send or receive money in Messages and make purchases with Apple Pay. Parents can send allowance or spending money directly to children. And parents can see and limit kids' spending.

With Screen Time, you can keep an eye on how much time your kids spend using apps, visiting websites, and on their devices overall. Review your kids’ activity reports and set time limits for specific apps right from your own device. You can also name another family member as a parent/guardian so that you’re always on the same page when it comes to your kids and their screen time.
Use Screen Time.
Set up Apple Watch for a school-aged child who doesn’t have their own iPhone. Kids can use their Apple Watch to make phone calls, send messages, and share their location with you. And parents can help kids stay distraction-free during school hours with Schooltime.

To help you stay coordinated, people in your family group can share locations. And you can help other family members find their devices if they are missing.
With Family Sharing, you can use the Find My app to share your location automatically with your family. If you need privacy, you can temporarily stop sharing your location. Just turn off Share My Location in the Find My app.
Your family members' devices appear in the Find My app. So it’s easier than ever to track down a missing or stolen iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac.
With Ask to Buy, when kids want to buy or download a new item, they send a request to the family organizer. The family organizer can use their own device to approve or decline the request. For example, if a child wants to buy an app, the family approver can see the app and decide whether to allow it.
If the family organizer approves the request and completes the purchase, the item automatically downloads to the child's device. If the family organizer declines the request, no purchase or download will take place. If a child redownloads a purchase, downloads a shared purchase, installs an update, or uses a redemption code, the family organizer won’t receive a request.
Familes can use Ask to Buy after they set up Family Sharing. The family organizer can turn on Ask to Buy for any family member who isn't an adult. It's on by default for any children under 13. You'll be asked to set up Ask to Buy when you invite anyone under 18 to your family group.1
If a family member turns 18 and the family organizer turns off Ask to Buy, the family organizer can't turn it on again.
If you're the family organizer, use your own device to turn on or turn off Ask to Buy.
If you're the family organizer, use your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch, or Mac to approve or decline a request.
After the item is purchased, it's added to your child’s account.2 If you turned on purchase sharing, the item is also shared with the rest of the family group.
If you decline a request, your child receives a notification that you declined the request. If you dismiss the request or don't make the purchase, the child will need to make the request again. Requests that you decline or dismiss are deleted after 24 hours.
If you miss an Ask to Buy notification, you can find the request in Notification Center on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch, or Mac.
The family organizer can give another parent or guardian in the group over the age of 18 permission to manage Ask to Buy requests. Only one adult needs to manage each purchase, and after it's done, the purchase is final.
If a child's account was created using Apple ID for Students, the child can use Ask to Buy for personal purchases outside of the educational institution. It won't apply to any apps or other content distributed by the school.
