RX 8 came out today. I’ve been lucky enough to have it for a week or so ahead of time though and I have to say, there is lot’s to be happy about! One of the biggest changes was an update to the algorithms in the Music Rebalance Module.
This module is really good if you want to adjust the balance of a track after it’s been mixed and mastered. It gives you the options to boost or cut the volume of the Vocals, the Bass, the Drums and/or the rest of the audio of a full piece of music. It really excels at it too.
However, one of the places Music Rebalance has been really popular since it was introduced in RX 7 is extracted or isolating the vocal of a track so people can me remixes. Well, I’m happy to report, the results are much, much better now in RX 8.
Sep 23, 2018 Music Rebalance is the sort of feature you would normally expect to be an RX 7 Advanced only feature so hats off to iZotope for including this new feature in RX 7 Standard as well as RX 7 Advanced from the get-go.
In the video below, I show you how easy it it to use and how good the resulting acapella sounds. It even keeps the reverb of the vocal too!!
Some things to keep in mind if this is your plan for the Music Rebalance module. First, the busier the track, the more difficult the separation process and results will vary. Also, if you are using an .MP3, you can expect less-than-incredible results.
Another thing to note about the updated version of the Music Rebalance module in RX 8 is that it now has a very handy “Separate” button, which automatically creates stems from the four sliders. This drastically reduces the work one needs to put in if this is something they are trying to do.
The Music Rebalance module has four adjustable parameters: Voice, Bass, Percussion, Other. You can, using the sliders, turn up or down these elements of a full mix. The example I use in the video below is turning up my voice-over which is permanently mixed to some tutorial music. To make the adjustment, literally all I needed to do was boost the Voice parameter and it worked perfectly. Just the volume of my voice was boosted and the musical elements stayed the same. There are many other applications of this fabulous tool and I’m excited to show you more in the coming weeks.
