Markings: The left side of the barrel at the receiver is marked with an “Eagle / N” nitro proof, a “69” date code and an Ulm antler proof. The left side of the receiver is marked with “Eagle / N”, “A”, “77080” and “Made by J. G. Anschutz GmbH. Waffenfabrik Ulm/D. West Germany”. The top of the barrel is marked “Anschutz – Modell Match 54 / –Cal. .22 long rifle—“ and the top of the receiver’s chamber ring is marked and “ANSCHUTZ” logo. The top of the bolt is marked with an “Eagle / N”.

Barrel Length: The heavy target grade barrel is 26” long and has a recessed crown. There is a slight barrel band at the muzzle, and the band measures 0.897“ while the barrel just behind it measures 0872“ in diameter.

Sights / Optics: There are three drilled and tapped holes in the top of the barrel band near the muzzle for attachment of a front sight, and the top of the receiver is grooved for a scope mount. There are two scope mounts screwed into the top of the barrel with a fixed power Unertl scope attached. The ring in front of the eyepiece lock ring is marked “16”, which we believe to be the power of the scope. The scope is marked with a J. Unertl logo and “53722”. The scope is 25 ¾” in length and has screw-in lens covers. The reticle is a fine crosshairs and the lenses are clear and free of distortion. There are few light marks in the scope where the rear ring was moved back and forth on the scope. The scope is in about Fine condition.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one piece checkered walnut with a satin finish. The buttstock has a palm heel cut-out on the right side that is deeply arched at the top for the thumb and a straight comb with a cheekpiece. The vertical pistol grip has a palm swell, the front face of the forend is undercut, and the buttstock has an alloy buttplate base that allows for different buttplates to be attached, with the ability to adjust their height. The buttplate currently attached is marked with an Anschutz logo and has a single arched prong at the top that is adjustable for angle, which translates into an adjustment of the length of pull. The rear face of the buttplate has a checkered rubber finish. Please see our pictures for a better description than we can put in words. The forend has a 15” long grooved alloy accessory rail inlet into it with a double hook attached that can be moved slid to is desired position and locked in place with a thumbscrew. There are a few light marks scattered over the stock, with a few small dings at the toe and light wear marks on the bottom of the pistol grip. The forend shows several tiny dings in its underside on the right side of the accessory rail, few light drag lines, and three curved dings on the left side in front of the checkering. The checkering shows light wear without mars. The LOP measures 11 ¾” from the front face of the trigger to the rear edge of the buttplate (measured at a spot straight back from the bottom edge of the cheekpiece). The buttplate shows light wear in its checkering. The buttplate is in about Fine condition. The stock is in about Fine Plus condition. >
Type of Finish: The barrel, receiver and bolt are blued. The trigger guard has a matte gray checkered finish and the accessory rails and buttplate are unfinished alloy.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are light marks in the front barrel band where a sight mount was once installed, a light mark along the lower left side of the barrel band and a light mark on the right side of the barrel mid-way between the muzzle and the forend. There is a small mark in the top of the barrel at the front of the “A” in Anschutz, a tiny ding in the top of the receiver’s chamber ring and thinning in the bolt knob. The screw heads in the accessory rail are disfigured and those in the trigger guard show light marks from a screwdriver. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine to Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. It has a very light single stage trigger set at 6.3 ozs. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is an Anschutz Model Match 54 single shot bolt action rifle intended for prone position target shooting. It has a single set trigger that is currently set at 6.3 ozs., an adjustable buttplate, and an Inertl 16X scope. The rifle features an Anschutz action, a target grade barrel, and a heavy walnut checkered stock with a vertical pistol grip and cheekpiece. The underside of the forend is inletted for a long accessory rail. This rifle is in about Fine to Excellent condition with about 97% of its finish remaining. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion. We think this would make an excellent rifle for benchrest or prone target shooting, especially with Unertl scope and ultralight trigger. The serious target shooters will be very interested in this rifle.
